If you are planning to ship goods from China to Kenya, the right decision depends on more than just finding the lowest freight rate. You need to compare cargo volume, urgency, customs requirements, final delivery location, and whether you need port-to-port freight or a more complete door-to-door solution.
For most commercial shipments, sea freight enters Kenya through the Port of Mombasa, while air freight normally arrives through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
As a general planning reference, air freight from China to Kenya may cost around 5.5 to 9 US dollars per kilogram, while express courier services may be around 9 to 14 dollars per kilogram. LCL sea freight may range roughly from 140 to 270 dollars per cubic meter. A 20-foot container may be around 2,300 to 4,200 dollars, while a 40-foot or 40-foot high-cube container may be around 3,300 to 5,500 dollars.
These are market reference ranges, not fixed quotations. Actual rates depend on the China origin, carrier, season, cargo type, weight, volume, destination charges, customs requirements, and final delivery address.
For transit time, FCL sea freight to Mombasa is commonly around 22 to 30 days port-to-port. LCL may take around 30 to 45 days because consolidation and deconsolidation add extra time. Air freight to Nairobi may take roughly 2 to 7 days, while express courier services are often around 3 to 7 days.
For smaller commercial shipments, LCL is often practical, especially when buying from several suppliers in China. Cargo can be collected, consolidated at a China warehouse, shipped to Mombasa, cleared, and then delivered inland to Nairobi or another destination.
Kenya compliance should be checked before cargo leaves China. Depending on the product, PVoC and a Certificate of Conformity may be required. Certificate of Origin requirements also apply, and for applicable containerized cargo, Kenya's Advance Cargo Declaration must be prepared before loading.
DDP or coordinated door-to-door shipping may be available for suitable cargo, but it should never be assumed automatically. Product type, HS code, cargo value, importer arrangement, compliance status, and final delivery address all need to be reviewed first.
A typical shipment process is: send cargo details, check the shipping method and Kenya import requirements, arrange China pickup and consolidation, prepare export and pre-shipment documents, ship by sea or air, coordinate customs clearance, and arrange final inland delivery.
If you are planning a shipment from China to Kenya, send Winsail Logistics your product details, dimensions, weight, cargo value, pickup city, and final Kenya destination. We can help you compare air freight, LCL, FCL, door-to-door, or other suitable options and plan a more practical route for your cargo.
